They're usually looking for marshals too, avoids hiking into the forest 
Get paired up with a team and follow them through for the day and watch the carnage, usually a different team on day 2. Any standard 4x4 will be fine as you park up at the section start and follow the team through the stage on foot and back out.
Thoroughly recommend going and it's right on our doorstep!
