Re: how hard can it be?
Hi all,
how hard and how much work is it to remove the viscous fan ("300tdi def") refit a electric fan, pacet? kenlowe? maybe even a scrappy one. got to be slimline. Would i gain much distance by doing this?
move the radiator and intercooler back as much as i can if only inches and refit, would a thermostat controller like x eng do? http://www.x-eng.co.uk/X-Fan.asp[/url]
what happens to the pulley belt when removing the viscous?
id have to refit the rad mounts further back aswell.
reason being im trying to shorten the front end approach angle but im not cutting the dumb irons.
cheers

If you're not cutting the dumb Irons do you really need to move the radiator?
Re: Re: how hard can it be?
have a look at THIS, the bumper he's using sits on top of the dumb irons, so the approach angle is the best it can be without getting the grinder out!
Re: how hard can it be?
it does look very good indeed, and close fitting. But i dont have 250 squids to spend on a bumper, i need 8.5 inches wide and ive only got 7 from the front of the dumbs to the rad. i would like it to be no further then the end of the dumbs. i geuss it would be alot of work to shift the rad, maybe a rethink.

Re: Re: how hard can it be?
Could you modify your current bumper to sit more like the first four one does? if it was sitting above the dumb irons it would put the bottom of the bumper up around the height of the bottom of the wings, which is pretty good... also with your tyres and lift it's going to be pretty impressive approach angle anyway!
Re: how hard can it be?
i was thinking of doing that, though it wont be strong enough to hold the beast back thats to go inside it, lol, they reckon minimum 8 mil bend plate bumper for it and the current one mite be 5 or 6. so i fink your right and i will get constructed or try myself to make a bumper that sits above the dumbs and is as far back as possible without touching the rad, the old bumper i think i wil cut the winch tray out and weld in between the rear chassis rails and some extensions looking like normal. what you think?

Re: Re: how hard can it be?
yeah, sounds like a plan rear winches actually make more sense than front ones too... just means you need to buy a second one though!
Re: how hard can it be?
yes, a rear winch does make more sense for getting unstuck. though the beast wouldnt fit in the back without major floor cutting and rear strengthening and im not layin on my back on ice trying to weld above me in dec lol. i like the look of this bumper and guard http://www.devon4x4.com/products_a/p86c261/0/d44-8274-competition-winch-mount.html
but its a tad over budget, so i will be heading to calendonian steel at some point, though that pigeon is still in my shed!
