Bonnet catches Empty Bonnet catches

Post  Jammer Tue Feb 17, 2009 10:58 pm

I'm noticing a number of people in various off road magazines with those bonnet mounted catches of various designs like you see on rally cars etc. I'm wondering if they are to replace the existing bonnet release mechanism? or only to be used in conjunction with.

My defender has a bonnet mounted spare wheel which means opening the bonnet is a two person job unless I take the wheel off first (and I usually can't be ersed), ie. someone inside to pull the bonnet release (or in my case grab it with a pair of pliers because the previous owner seems to have lost the handle) while another upstanding member of the community lifts the bonnet from the outside.

If these mysterious bonnet catches are to replace the existing bonnet release mechanism, that would mean that I could open the bonnet on my own bounce

Can anybody enlighten me?

You can use them with or without the original bonnet catch Smile

Nice one! I'll probably just do away with the original catch and use these for convenience incase I'm stranded out in the sticks. Cheers for that!
