The ROCK CHALLENGE event
The rock challenge event is to be held on Mull on the week-end of 9/10/11th July.
The event will require vehicles to get to a cairn on top of a mountain, collecting cards at various locations en route. It is held on 700 acres of private land, with no trees !
The event can be entered as a team of two vehicles or as a sole entrant.
Entry is £40 per vehicle to the site, whether you take part in the challenge, or just want to free range for the week-end.
It is being run under MSA permit.
There will be a marquee on site, a BBQ, and lots of camping space.
Full details can be seen on the Highland 4 Wheel Drive Club web page under 'The Rock'.
Booking is essential for the challenge, but not for the week-end, but to know numbers would be nice !

All the ferry prices dropped about 2-3 years ago when they changed them all to "Road Equivelant Tarriff" or RET's made a huge differnce

West side story
So you will be driving up the West coast ! Minor detour, tell them that there is a diversion ahead and you are taking evasive action
The ROCK CHALLENGE event
Numbers are growing and as the Pheonix Challenge has been cancelled we have picked up some comptitors from that, so looking good.
We have about 8 teams from this area confirmed, and I am sure there will be more ! As it is not a winch challenge, or a timed event, it is everyone in thier own time. You will have to collect a tokens that has a card allocated to it, and at the end of the day you swap tokens for cards, you play your hand - so, fast slow, honest or cheat, it will not make much difference as it is your hand of cards that decides !
There will be marshalls to see that everyone drives to the pick-up points, but getting within 10 yards of the point will be the challange - not getting right to a post and getting a card punched. You can assist others without loosing or gaining point - the object is for everyone to finish so everyone is a winner. There will be a trophy which you will hold for 1 year.

Re: The ROCK CHALLENGE event
Not going to make it !! Due to the Barra ferry breaking down and replaced with the Isla ferry, which is a smaller vessel, and now fully booked. Cant get back till Tuesday if i want to get to Oban.
The ROCK CHALENGE event
Your entry and signing on give you membership to the H4WDC for one year. The event is run under an MSA permit #59791 on the 19th July 2010. Entrants are subjected to 'blue book' regulations as laid out by the MSA - fire extinguisher, first aid, battery secure, seat belts and visable recovery points etc. You will NOT receive a news letter unless you become a full paid up member, as opposed to an affiliated member !
The objective is different to most challenge events, so to that end, there are (other than safety and common sense) very few rules. There will be a briefing on Sat morning.
The token retrieval points will be marshalled, and in an open area - the challenge is to get to the area - you could walk, but the only person you are cheating on is yourself, and it does not mean you will win. Being fastest, or even getting all the tokens does not put you in pole position for the trophy ???? ! ! It IS different
See you Friday night Hughie.
