Just a word of warning Andrew, with the new electronic MOT system a fail will void your current certificate, and because it's database stored, it will show up with the Police as having no current test on it util the database is updated with a MOT pass....
Re: Disco mot tomorrow
I was just writing the same thing Roz. Seen people caught out with this before. Better to be same than sorry Andy.

Re: Disco mot tomorrow
No need it says on Fail sheet. " If you intend to use your vehicle on the roadyou should have it repaired without delay and have it retested before the existing test validity expires." Does not say you'r not able to use it on the road

Re: Disco mot tomorrow
I'm positive that once a fail has been issued you are only allowed to drive it either to or from a pre booked test station. Once it has been failed, it is deemed unroadworthy util it has been rectified then passed..
Re: Disco mot tomorrow
Form VT30 – Refusal of an MOT Test Certificate. A red form with minor details of your car, the name of tester and address of test station. This form lists the items your car failed to pass.
A Refusal of an MOT Test Certificate means one or more items have failed to meet the minimum legal requirements for a pass. The item(s) will be listed on the form. If you intend to use your car on the roads, the item(s) will need to be replaced/repaired urgently. It may be possible to arrange replacement/repair of failed item(s) at the test station premises, to enable your car to achieve an MOT test pass Certificate before you drive the car away.
However, if you intend to drive your car away from the test station with a Refusal of an MOT Test Certificate, there are some stipulations. It is illegal to drive a car of MOT-testable age that does not have a current MOT test certificate on public roads, with the exception of driving it away to a place of repair, which may include your home residence. From there you may be permitted to drive to a pre-booked place of repair, and to a pre-booked MOT test station.
It is not illegal to sell a car with a Refusal of an MOT Test Certificate, however, a buyer may be breaking the law by driving it away, unless the stipulations above are satisfied. Even then it is not guaranteed that you will not be prosecuted for driving an unroadworthy car, and your insurance may be invalidated.
Personally, the only place I'd be driving it is back to a pre booked test station. This is basicly saying you can do that legally, but even then if you are unlcky enough to be stopped or have an accident, you could still be prosecuted for driving an unroadworthy vehicle.
Remember, the MOT is the basic MINIMUM standard your vehicle should be KEPT at, not the standard you have to bring it up to once a year.
The police can demand an inspection of road worthiness at any time, and it's not uncommon on off roaders.
Sorry!
Re: Disco mot tomorrow

mot
Hi
Roz is correct under the the new eletronic mot legislation your current m.o.t certificate is void as soon as the mot station logs your motor on to the computer An electronic record of mot is what is now required by law this is to stop fradulent mots and mot certificates. the record is what is checked even if you show a certificate.
Gone are the days when you could take your motor for a mot with a month to go knowing if it failed you would have a month to fix it, but of course if it passes you would still have 13 months mot
The certificate is no longer proof of an MOT and shouldn’t be relied on as such. Only the computer record can prove a vehicle has a valid MOT
A quick call to VOSA will confirm this. you can also check the status of your Disco yourself by following this link

cheers ali

Re: Disco mot tomorrow
Andrew, I'm not being arsey here, you don't have a valid MOT certificate, if you drive it anywhere other than to a pre booked MOT station, you are breaking the law, and you may have invalid insurance.
The current computerised MOT system has issued a refusal of an MOT certificate for your vehicle, which completely supersedes any previous certificate, regardless of when that was issued.
Because this is all now added to the database, any police car using the ANPR system (all traffic cars) will automaticly ping your reg number because it's listed as having no current MOT.
I've looked a lot at this, as I've resarched in the past what the legalities are with hybrids, and pretty much always have a vehicle in the household that needs an MOT (currently 7, one of which is booked for test tomorrow) I know my MOT tester very well, and had him confirm the situation on the phone when I booked the Pug for tomorrow.
If you choose to ignore that, it's up to you, but don't say you weren't warned.

Hi Roz I confirmed what I thought and posted the quote from the mot fail that I still have an mot which expires on 08/05/10 that is when the mot runs out and not before as long as I weld it on sat the Disco is road worthy if I did not weld it that would be another story

Re: Disco mot tomorrow
Looks like we'll have to agree to disagree on this one mate.
As far as I can tell, your old MOT is invalid.
The 10 days part you mentioned is the timescale for a retest, that is, if you take the repaired vehicle back within 10 days the tester can enter it as a retest and be allowed to check only points it failed on the first time. If it's after 10 days it's a new test and he has to do the whole lot again.

disco mot tommorow
hi guys dont mean to but in . but i have been watching this thread and can add i worked with a mate at tulloch homes who put his fiat in for an mot 3 weeks early it failed on a blowing exhaust, wiper blades and leaking sump gasket his intention was to see what it needed and get it done over the three weeks mot he had left. anyway he got pulled over in town on saturday night four days after failing the mot and was charged with not having a valid mot and was fined 60 quid no points though. so i would have to agree with ross on this one. under the old system he would have been fine but with the new system your screwed if you fail.

Re: Disco mot tomorrow
Hi when I spoke to the mot station he said people are saying different things about it i have done the link the results are
Your MOT details
Registration Mark:A4TWK
Make of the vehicle:LAND ROVER
Model of the vehicle:DISCOVERY
Test Result:Certificate Issued (Pass)
Colour of the vehicle:RED
Date of test:05/05/2009
Expiry date:08/05/2010
I think If I was your mate I would be getting the £60 back at the top of the vt30 it says
" If you intend to use your vehicle on the road you should have it repaired without delay and have it retested before the existing test validity expires."
I think the two things are the vehicle should be repaired before driving on the road and the other point is existing test validity expires
