TD5 fuel problem
needing a wee bit of help here.My TD5 90 will run for a short while and then just cut out It wont start again on the key but will start in its own length if you tow it.I had a problem last week with bad fuel I cleaned out tank and it was fine until yesterday when it just stopped and wouldn't start again.Have checked over pretty much everything and changed the filter again but no luck. Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Re: TD5 fuel problem
could it be a fuel line blockage i know when i had the 2.5 fitted in the winter it was bad for ice crestals forming and thet would starve the fuel would run for small time and then stop on me as it would not let enough fuel through.

Re: TD5 fuel problem
Injectors maybe?.
When I had the surf when I used to change the diesel filter I used to fill it with redex and then drive it like I stole it to give it a really good clean, might be worth a try if you can get it to run long enough. Just to make sure you have got rid of an rubbish left in there.

Re: TD5 fuel problem
Does your 90 have the fuel pump in/on the fuel tank? I can't remember if they are the same as the 110, but those were prone to fuel pump problems......
Re: TD5 fuel problem
Thanks for that guys but the problem is the fuel pump in the tank and obviously it is not the cheapest item around. There is a garage close by that has a pump for a 110 but the 90 and 110 have different pumps so ebay it is and another dent in the savings.

Re: TD5 fuel problem
have been looking through some other forums and a couple of them are saying to check out the fuel filter as there was a bad batchand they werent sealing. Will try out a new filter again before I splash out on a pump try the cheaper option first.

hi there.
one of our works early td5 90s has a very similiar problem and it is always fuel pump related. we HAVE to now keep the fuel above 1/4 of a tank or these symptons occur. how much fuels in yours?

Re: TD5 fuel problem
it was between 1/2 and 1/4 but I got bad fuel with water so that wouldn't help I am just looking a cheaper options(false economy) but I think I will have to splash out on a pump.

pumps
The pump from a 110 will fit a 90 as they are spring loaded and compress when you put them in the tank. A bad battery will also cause problems as the ECU is sensitive to voltage. The fuel system in a td5 is low and high pressure. It pumps low pressure round the filter then back to the pump where it is pumped under high pressure 40psi, back to the valve on the head and into the fuel rail. After that it is returned via the fuel heater to the tank - to start all over again !
