90 RRC v8 auto to 300tdi
For better or worse I am now committed, I have bought the engine and paid for shipping. A 95 300tdi with less than 90k on the clock is steaming its way to my garage. I am spending the next month waiting for it to arrive and questioning my sanity. What I have is a 1990 RRC with a tired petrol 3.9 V-8 and a rebuilt ZF auto box, pretty much all you can get in the US. The engine is coming with a used up diesel ZF behind it. Until I get into it I don't know exactly how far gone it is but I am hoping that with two too work with I can get one going. I know the shift points and stall are different between the petrol and diesel, but all the other internals seem to be the same. I am hoping I can swap the torque converter, valve body and bell housing from the worn diesel into the working petrol and and come up with a drivable unit. Any one out there know if this is possible? I plan on rebuilding the diesel as a first choice but I am just trying to plan for the worst.

I have thought about it. Guys over here are doing it all the time.
I have to get it in and running first.

Diesel is in
So after a long 4 day weekend the 300 Tdi is now installed and running in the old Range Rover. I have a few things left to tidy up but all is well. Any suggestions on where to get an upgraded intercooler and hoses for a good price?

Thanks for the links.
Any idea where to find the 1.66 gear sets for the LT230 for a reasonable price?
They want over 700 USD for them here.
I will be there in march so I think my baggage may be a little heavy on the return flight.
Do you think a gearbox will count as carry on.

Great link thanks for that. I will pick up a set while i am there.
Anyone know how I would hook up my speedo which is cable from the BW transfer box to the speed transducer on the frame rail when i swap in the LT230 which is electric from the case? Can I just go straight from the Lt230 connector to the wiring leaving the transducer or do I need a new speedo?
