Re: my 90 300tdi,
its in the Mot station, drove fine there, about half hour. since ive never driven it anywhere, big tyres were exciting shall i say at times only problem thats worrying me, man at the station gave it a quick look and didnt like the conveyor belt rubber arches, even though there quarter inch rubber and not easily flexd "apparently" they should be like the abs plastic ones so bodys bounce off rather than get pushed into the wheels, though obviously safety of the public first. heres hoping

Re: my 90 300tdi,
I think you would find that it should be ok as their are plenty of people with that type of arch on defenders

Re: my 90 300tdi,
Do you still have the original arches? You could always rivet then on top of the conveyer ones to have the pedestrian friendly effect!
If it was me as the pedestrian though, I'd just get out the f'in way if I saw that thing coming!!

Re: my 90 300tdi,
yep clunkyknox you do see lots of defenders with this type of arch and even companys are selling similiar items, i hope that they realise that,
roz, i do indeed still have the old arches and could rivet them on, would be wiiiddddeeee though, would love to see it pass without it though!! your right about getting out the way, those tyres do howl on the tar.

Re: my 90 300tdi,
Good news mate!
I half expected you to turn up here with it lol!
How did those tyres handle on the A9?
And have you any idea how accurate (or not) your speedo is?

my 90 300tdi,
hi ross, tyres on the a9 fine, a wee bit of drifting but realy very good for what they are! on the cruben old road every bump feels like a sleeping policeman but cornering and that absolutly fine, 60mph on the a9 nay bother, the tyres have taken the edge off performance slightly lol, and they are LOUD. stereo up speedo is fairly accurate i think about 10% out if any. need a good transfer box as mine has got a big whine now, if its that, cant think of it being anything else? but what ratio would be good for the tyres and the offroad? same style as your old 90 one? but would it be upto the extra power? you thinking of 35"s??? ....

Re: my 90 300tdi,
Aye one off an early 90 like mine would lower your gear ratios by about 15%.
I think mine is the LT230 20D with the 1.667 ratio, the later ones (like yours) were 1.410. The disco one I sold to Dougie was 1.222.
Mine isn't too bad with the tdi, but it's noticeably lower geared, good for B roads and off road, not so good at 70 on the A9!
Bigger tyres is something I'd like in the future, just not yet!

Re: my 90 300tdi,
hello.
well alot has changed in the last month.
got a new second manifold to sort the whinning problem. and changed the lift pump after that failing. what a power increase!!
got a new plasma rope from andy thomlinson at rufftraks, great man to deal with.
now fitted a full external 90 t/c cage, bolt in removable type made by tomcat enginnering. needs painting when it stops raining. brackets need cut and welded on for lights front and rear, and other goodies.
also at the same time had a rear crossmember made up of some 90x90 box and new sections made and shaped into the rear spring mount. its all completly sealed and waterproof. much better and stronger than the britpart bean tin ones and the original.
one day i will mount a centre winch on the a frame crossmember and run the cable through to the back and have a fairlead there, aswell as working out how to use it asa centre winch with another fairlead on the top of the cage.
will post some piccys soon.
